DFID / Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme
Loughborough University is a participating University in the Shared Scholarship Scheme. For entry in 2012, two full fee and maintenance scholarships are available. The awards are jointly sponsored by the Department for International Development and Loughborough University.
This scheme is intended to help students from developing commonwealth countries to undertake a one year taught Masters degree. The degree must be related to the economic and social development of the scholar’s home country.
Eligibility
Applicants should:
- Be a national of, or be permanently domiciled in, a developing commonwealth country
- Not currently be living or studying in a developed country
- Not be employed by a government or state-funded organisation
- Intend to return to your home country as soon as the award ends
- Hold a first or upper second class degree
- Be in receipt of, and have accepted, an offer of a place to study on one of the following full time postgraduate taught Masters degree programmes:
- MSc Analytical Chemistry
- MSc Analytical Chemistry & Environmental Science
- MSc Analytical & Pharmaceutical Science
- MSc Building Services Engineering
- MSc Construction Management
- MSc Construction Project Management
- MSc Environmental Studies
- MSc International Financial & Political Relations
- MSc Pharmaceutical Science & Medicinal Chemistry
- MSc Renewable Energy Systems Technology
- Be unable to meet the tuition fees and related costs yourself or with family assistance

Applying
Loughborough University is a participating University. It is not a nominating University. This means that we do not accept Shared Scholarship applications made direct to the University. To apply for a Scholarship, you must follow the steps below:
- Apply to the University for one of the full-time taught Masters degree programmes on the above list.
- Receive an offer for the programme, and accept the offer, by returning your acceptance form.
- Once you have followed steps 1 and 2, you can then submit a separate application to the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission, using the Electronic Application System (EAS). Information on this can be found online
- Please ensure you complete the application for the Shared Scholarship Scheme

- The deadline for applications is 13th April 2012. Please remember that you must also have applied for a Masters degree at Loughborough University and received an offer by this date, or your application for a Shared Scholarship will be disregarded.
The scheme is administered by the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
