Eliahou Dangoor Scholarship for UK Undergraduates
Loughborough University is pleased to be participating in a new scholarship scheme for UK undergraduates and Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE )students, made possible by the generosity of Naim Dangoor.
The scholarship scheme has been established to provide talented students with the opportunity to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects at the leading universities in the United Kingdom. The scholarships are seen as offering the opportunity for some of the best students to realise their full potential.
Loughborough University will be awarding up to 30 scholarships for the 2012/2013 academic year. Each scholarship will be valued at £1000 and will be for one year’s duration.
Undergraduate scholarships
Students who meet the following criteria will be eligible for consideration:
- UK nationality
- Permanent residence in the United Kingdom.
- Undertaking a STEM degree course at Loughborough from the approved list
- Paying UK tuition fees
- Registered as full-time
Scholarship application forms will be sent to eligible prospective students who have:
- received an offer from the University for an approved course
- made Loughborough their first (firm) choice within the UCAS procedure
The form will include an opportunity for the applicant to enter a supporting statement explaining why they have chosen their particular course. The selection process will be carried out after the publication of the GCE A Level examination results in August 2012 and will be confined to applicants who are successful in gaining a place. The selection panel will take account of the following, in the order given:
- Academic achievement (with a minimum achievement of ABB grades in three full A Levels or equivalent)
- Area of permanent residence (preference will be given to students from areas known to be under-represented in Higher Education using Government approved measures)
- Additional Widening Participation evidence (eg no previous family involvement in Higher Education)
- Distribution across degree courses
- The applicant’s supporting statement
- Whether the applicant has been awarded a University merit-based scholarship (the two awards cannot be held together)
Successful applicants will be notified in September.
Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) Scholarship
The scholarship scheme also applies to the Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE). At least one award will be reserved for a UK full-time PGCE student who has been admitted to either the Science or the Design and Technology PGCE stream for the 2012/2013 academic year. Separate eligibility criteria and selection process for the PGCE scholarship will be published in due course.
