My main research area is twentieth-century and contemporary Irish fiction. I am particularly interested in writings in the rural context, and focus on issues of gender, identity and class in my research. I have sole responsibility for the modules 'Contemporary Irish Texts' and 'Diverse Voices'. I also teach 'Writing Women' and ‘Critical Studies’.
I am the staff liaison for mature students, and Admissions Tutor for the part-time degree course in English. I am involved in the University’s Widening Participation programme, and under that remit present talks and workshops for school groups, giving pupils a taster of university-style work. I also deliver events related to literature and Irish Studies for libraries, festivals and various community groups. I'm currently Chair of Nottingham Irish Studies Group.
