Politics, History & International Relations

Our Research

The Department of Politics, History and International Relations was originally established as a department of European Studies.  Over the course of its history the Department has gained a reputation for internationally-renown research in politics, international relations and area studies. The Department’s new name reflects a number of important strategic changes in recruitment and, most recently, the re-emergence of modern history at Loughborough.  In 2006 the Department set up the Centre for the Study of International Governance (CSIG) under the joint directorship of Professors Dave Allen and Mike Smith to co-ordinate research activities across the Department. The centre has supported a number of conferences, workshops and seminars both in the Department and at other university venues, often in cooperation with national and international partners.  The Department is also home to the Anarchism Research Group, established in 2010 to co-ordinate and facilitate work in anarchist studies in the Department and across the University.
