School of the Arts
Art, Design & Performance by Practice
MRes 1 year full-time, part-time by individual negotiation
The course aims to provide the relevant training in research methodology at Master’s level, as a suitable basis for progression to Doctoral Practice-based Research.
It is designed to serve as the first year of study for students who intend to continue with research in areas of: fine art in its broadest sense, including writing, curating and collaborative practices; performance as it is conceived in the contexts of both fine art and theatre; a range of design disciplines; visual communication.
It also provides a self-contained programme of enquiry into aspects of historical, theoretical and practice research in these areas. It enables exploratory enquiry into the nature of ‘practice’ as research using the student’s individual practice for the purposes of specific content.
