Postgraduate Study

Essential Information

How to Apply

The recommended way to apply for admission to a taught or research programme is to Apply Online. This allows us to give a good service by processing applications quickly. Your application must be supported by documentary evidence of entry qualifications (including English language where appropriate), academic transcripts and sealed references.

You are strongly advised to send your documents, including transcripts and sealed references, as soon as you make your online application as we may not be able to make a decision about your application until we receive them

For detailed information on visa applications, the ATAS scheme and an FAQ on a variety of admissions processes, please see the Information for Applicants section of the Postgraduate Admissions Office website.

Applying for a taught programme

Some departments require submission of a personal statement or additional information before they are able to consider your application. We strongly advise you to check details of your chosen programme before submitting your application.

For further information and advice visit www.lboro.ac.uk/pgt.

Applying for a research programme

When you apply for a research degree you will be required to describe your proposed area of research.

This should usually be in the form of an initial research proposal of approximately 500 words, including an outline of your research interests, your initial thoughts about a topic, references to previous work, the methodology and general approach you wish to take. You should also indicate how this research will make an original contribution to knowledge.

Some departments require you to complete a more detailed proposal before they can make a final decision on your application. Check to see if this applies to the department you are applying to.

If you do not have a firm research proposal you should still provide as much information as possible with your application including possible topic areas, and intended source of funding. If you have already reached an agreement with your prospective department about a particular topic, or are applying for a specific vacancy, you need only provide brief details of that project on your application form.

If you require further advice on how to complete your research application please contact the department in which you wish to study.

Verification of Supporting Documentation

Please be aware that we carefully check all academic and English Language documents to ensure that they are genuine. All IELTS and TOEFL certificates are verified. We may request originals to be submitted and we may also confirm with the awarding institution the information contained in the documents.
