Postgraduate Study

Essential Information

General entrance requirements

Loughborough University recognises a wide range of first degrees from universities around the world:

Check the programme in which you are interested for any specific entry qualifications and see our International Students’ web pages for some country-specific information

Please note that in order to ensure an applicant’s academic suitability for the programme each application is carefully assessed with particular attention being paid to the academic transcript.  Other factors including  references and, where relevant, an applicant’s professional experience are also taken into account. If, based on this assessment the department concludes that an applicant does not  have the required academic ability they can deem the application to be unsuccessful even if the published minimum requirements have been met

English language

All applicants must have an acceptable qualification in English Language before they can be admitted to any postgraduate programme.

Below are the main English language qualifications acceptable for entry to the University (these are the minimum and some departments may require higher levels):

See a list of all acceptable English language qualifications at www.lboro.ac.uk/englishlang.

Students who have not achieved the minimum English language requirements may, at the discretion of departments, be admitted onto a Pre-sessional English Language programme as an alternative way to satisfy the requirements.

The University considers it very important that international students should attend a Pre-sessional Course as this enables them to work much more effectively when their academic courses begin
