Loughborough Students' Union
Loughborough Students’ Union (LSU) is one of the best unions in the country, with over 100 associations, clubs and societies as well as an active social scene.
The Union’s standing as number 1 in National Rankings was cemented when Loughborough University and LSU won the Times Higher Award for ‘Best Student Experience’ for three years in a row. More recently we were awarded ‘Best International Students Union of the Year 2009’ by the National Union of Students (NUS).

The Union provides an Employment Exchange, subsidised nursery places for students’ children and an independent academic advice centre. The Union building also has catering outlets, shops, bank, hairdresser, optician, pharmacy and dentist.
The Students’ Union has an executive team including a Postgraduate Development Officer who is an elected student. The executive committee works to support, represent and involve postgraduate students in all Loughborough has to offer, to ensure that you get the most from your Loughborough postgraduate experience.
Associations and committees
The Mature Students Association provides formal and informal networks to promote the social, sporting, cultural and political involvement of its members in University life. The International Students’ Association represents international students on all issues, and provides an excellent social life. It is run by students elected annually by members from more than 120 countries.
The Union has a very active Postgraduate association. This group organises social activity exclusively for postgraduate students. The group also represents the views of postgraduate students to the Union.
Loughborough Students’ Voice Service
Loughborough Students Voice Service provides a support mechanism to deal with academic issues and problems relating to your study. Voice has a team of elected representatives across departments who can aid you and take forward comments and suggestions you may have.
By being involved in one of the department committees or as a programme rep you can represent your course to the University and the Union. This is your opportunity to keep the issues that affect postgraduate students high on everyone’s agenda.

To supplement your finance and to help you develop new skills, our computerised Employment Exchange matches you to jobs within the Students’ Union, University or local companies.
Nursery
Loughborough Campus Nursery is a multi-ethnic environment specifically designed and planned to provide the very best in child-care and development for the campus and people of Loughborough. Care for students’ children is available at subsidised rates.
Clubs, societies and the Athletic Union
More than 100 clubs and societies enable you to have a go at activities you always wanted to try,and are a great way to make new friends. You also have the opportunity to join over 50 sporting clubs and be a part of one of the most successful Athletic Unions in the UK.
Entertainments, services and student media
The Union provides professional entertainment for a wide range of tastes. It also runs shops, bars, and catering outlets in the Union building and around the campus. For major events, LSU provides a night bus service. It takes you to your door, ensuring you get home safe and sound.
Loughborough houses one of the best Union media centres in the UK providing opportunities to develop your media skills with our magazine, radio and TV stations and record label. Many students go on to top jobs within the industry.
RAG and Community Action
Loughborough RAG is one of the biggest student fund raising organisations in the UK and each year raises well over £900,000 for local and national charities. The Students’ Union also provides opportunities to take part in projects to benefit both you and the local community. Full training and support is provided to enhance the effectiveness, enjoyment and confidence of volunteers.
Our green credentials
The Students’ Union takes an active role in helping to ensure our carbon footprint is minimised where possible. This effort was recently recognised by the Sunday Times who placed us 7th out of all UK companies. The report named us as the greenest students’ union in the UK for the past two years and awarded us a green award for best small organisation with low environmental impact. We were the highest placed university in the report and hope to build upon this success with further developments to help save the environment.
