National design accolade for Loughborough graduates
The design talent of two Loughborough graduates has been recognised with a prestigious national award from the housewares industry.
| Since graduating from Loughborough’s highly respected Industrial Design and Technology degree course, James Samwell and Kamal Peshawaria have been product designing for Imperial, the UK’s fastest growing home and kitchenwares supplier. The Leicester-based company received the Excellence in Housewares Awards Best Design Team Award at a special ‘industry Oscars’ event in London last month. | ![]() |
The annual awards recognise outstanding new products, designers, manufacturers and retailers throughout the housewares sector. Imperial fought off fierce competition from household names including Typhoon and Meyer / Prestige to win the best Design Team Award.
“We are absolutely thrilled with our success,” says Imperial’s Managing and Design Director, Mo B’ham. “Our design philosophy at Imperial is simple. Products should be designed for the user – people should not have to adapt to use a product. James and Kam’s input is both instrumental to us winning this award, and to our ongoing campaign for new product innovation.” He concludes, “they are a real credit to Loughborough University.”

Imperial has plenty of cause for celebration this Autumn: arc42, its revolutionary new cookware range designed to prevent wrist soreness was selected as part of Harrods’ Truly British Extravaganza in October. The cookware which James and Kam helped design took pride of place in the world famous store’s window display alongside iconic British brands such as British Airways, Burberry, McLaren, Paul Smith and Triumph. Leading British chef, Gary Rhodes, also demonstrated arc42 in Harrods’ cookshop, having worked with Imperial since 2003 to develop the innovative new cookware range. |
