Local professor works with Government to improve business management
Professor Jim Saker from Loughborough University’s Business School has been appointed to the Government’s newly created Leadership and Management Panel.

This influential group is responsible for offering strategic advice to Government ministers on ways of improving leadership and management across the private, public and voluntary sectors in the UK.
Professor Saker will also be acting as an ‘ambassador’ in promoting the importance of improved leadership and management performance. The work of the group is targeted at specifically ensuring that the UK has the leadership infrastructure in place to support the economy in an increasingly competitive global market place.
This appointment comes on the back of Professor Saker’s recognition in the automotive industry’s Power 100 – a listing that ranks the most influential people in the sector. He is well known as an international speaker on management issues, and works with organisations such as the Institute of Directors and a range of industrial companies specialising in the area of strategy development. He is also well known locally as chair of the Leicester Riders Basketball Club, and has been recognised along with Mike Steptoe as being responsible for saving the Riders from extinction.
Commenting on his appointment, Professor Saker said: “It is a privilege to be considered as someone who can make a contribution to this critical area. Research shows that most business failure points to poor management often with a lack of clear leadership. By encouraging the Government to address these areas, we can help build a sustainable economic base locally, nationally and globally.”
