A summer of sporting fun for children on offer thanks to Loughborough University
As the end of term rapidly approaches parents across Charnwood need look no further than Loughborough University for a range of sporting activities to keep their kids entertained over the summer holidays.
The choice of activities on offer is extensive with something to appeal to most children, whether they want to develop their skills in a single sport they already know, have a go at a range of sports or try something totally new. Children aged from 5 to 14 are being catered for.
Three single sport camps are being run in association with Charnwood Borough Council. The World Cup Football Camp has been specifically designed to develop skill and technique with all aspects of the game being covered. Children will be able to take part in new competitions with new medals to be won! Who knows, England might even win this competition!
For those who prefer the oval ball there is the Rugby Camp, lead by Paul Westgate, the University’s Head rugby Coach. The camp is aimed at developing skills, confidence and knowledge whilst having fun and enjoying the game of rugby.
If its Freddie Flintoff the kids want to emulate then the University’s Cricket Camp is the one to go for. These sessions will cater for all abilities giving the children the chance to learn, improve or perfect cricket skills.

This summer will see the University offer an exciting new sporting opportunity. Utilising the University’s world class facilities, the multi sport camp will cater for children aged 5-14. The camp will be split into 3 teams. For the younger children there will be ‘Team Nike’. This will involve games and activities to help improve vital skills such as hand-eye co-ordination, teamwork and spatial awareness. Members of Team Nike will play a variety of well known sports as well as play ground games such as ‘stuck in the mud’, dodgeball, benchball and ‘duck, duck, goose’ to add a fun element. For those aged 8-10, ‘Team Hercules’ will involve many of the sports children know and love as well as some they may not have tried such as water polo or archery. Children aged 11-14 will be in ‘Team Zeus’. They too will be able to try traditional as well as new sports.
Sessions will cater for individual sporting ability and most will be held in facilities used by Loughborough’s Commonwealth Games medal winners.
