Motorola donates equipment to Loughborough University
Motorola has donated a collection of equipment to Loughborough University’s Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, to assist in its research, development and teaching programmes.
The equipment includes a large anechoic chamber - which is the size of a small room! The chamber will be used by the Department’s wireless and mobile communications research group to study mobile phone antenna performance and wireless networks. The team at Loughborough already works with Motorola researchers in Birmingham on this area.
In addition, two large environmental chambers have also been donated to the Centre for Renewable Energy Systems Technology (CREST), which is based within the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering. These chambers will be used by a team of researchers working on testing solar modules for their energy generation and durability, and also on the next generation of solar panel technologies.
Professor Yiannis Vardaxoglou, Head of the Department, said: “This is an excellent opportunity to enable our research to go from strength to strength and we are extremely grateful to Motorola for this donation. It is a good example of industry and academia working together to develop new research avenues.”
Mark Dunton, Motorola’s Loughborough Site Manager commented: “It is great to be able to assist the University with the donation of this equipment. Once we realised that it was no longer suitable for our purposes we were delighted that Loughborough was able to use this equipment, especially since a close relationship exists already between the University and Motorola.”
